HONORS PRECALCULUS – MR. HAGERMAN
COURSE REQUIREMENTS Each student must bring to class everyday their chromebook, a pencil/pen, a binder, and paper. A graphing calculator is required for this course and you should have either check out one from the library or purchased your own to use. I will be demonstrating concepts using a TI-83 Plus graphing calculator. If you check out one from the library, a financial obligation will be levied if the calculator is stolen, lost, or damaged.
CLASS PROCEDURE This course will be divided into chapters that follow the outline of the textbook, which is on line through the library e-textbook section. Usually, a new topic will be introduced each day, and class work/homework is assigned every day. Students will be required to take notes in class as provided by the teacher. There may be quizzes within a chapter and a test will conclude each chapter. Only one homework assignment will be collected for every 5 or 6 assigned (the selection will be random). The homework assignment selected will be graded on an effort to correctly solve the problem, appropriate work shown, and completeness. I encourage students to work together on homework assignments. No credit will be given to any late assignment.
Students absent for any reason will get two school days to turn in a completed assignment upon their return. Students who are absent on the day of a test most likely will be required to take the test on the day they return. A make-up version will most likely be given.
GRADING POLICY Coursework for each quarter will be based on an 90% Test, 10% class work/homework split. There are two types of tests. One covers the regular coursework, which accounts for most of the test grade. The other is a short calculator test. Some calculator tests can be retaken at a specific time for a maximum score determined by the teacher; others cannot be retaken. The teacher will inform you whether the calculator test can be retaken or not. There are no retakes for the regular coursework tests or finals. Therefore, it is important to be ready and prepared for these assessments. Any quizzes given may be factored into the homework score. An accountability bonus may be added into each graded unit. Students are expected to take any assessment on the scheduled day and will lose any bonus offered for that unit if the assessment is taken later. Students may arrange to take an assessment early if they know they will be absent on the scheduled day with no bonus deduction. Students are also expected to be in class on time and are expected to use class time productively. Any student who is tardy, misses excessive amounts of class time, or wastes class time will lose bonus points. There will be a final at the end of each semester. This will be averaged in at approximately 20% to 40% to determine you semester grade. The letter grade for this class will be based on the following:
A = 90% to 100%, B = 80% to 89%, C = 70% to 79%, D = 60% to 69%, F = below 60%
HELP I am usually available for help in my room on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 am. Additional help will need to be arranged. You can contact me by email at [email protected]
